South Asian Canadian Heritage Month Celebration: Embracing Our Roots, Building Our Future

The South Asian Canadian Legacy Project proudly announces the launch of South Asian Canadian Heritage Month, a month-long celebration of South Asian Canadian identity, culture, and contributions to Canadian society.

Kamloops, BC – March 18, 2024

The South Asian Canadian Legacy Project, led by spokesperson Dr. Satwinder Kaur Bains, is thrilled to unveil the inaugural South Asian Canadian Heritage Month Celebration. This landmark event aims to honor the rich heritage of South Asian Canadians while fostering greater understanding and appreciation of their cultural legacy.

Scheduled to take place from June 1st to June 30th, the South Asian Canadian Heritage Month Celebration will feature a diverse range of activities and initiatives designed to engage, educate, and inspire Canadians from all walks of life.

Highlights of the event include virtual exhibitions showcasing the history, achievements, and contributions of South Asian Canadians; panel discussions featuring prominent figures in South Asian Canadian history, arts, and activism; cultural performances highlighting the diverse traditions of South Asia; community dialogues on issues relevant to the South Asian Canadian community, such as identity, representation, and belonging; and educational workshops on topics ranging from cuisine and language to art and literature.

Dr. Satwinder Kaur Bains, spokesperson for the South Asian Canadian Legacy Project, shared her enthusiasm for the event, stating: “South Asian Canadian Heritage Month is a momentous occasion for us to celebrate the vibrant tapestry of South Asian Canadian identity. Through this month-long celebration, we hope to honor the past achievements and contributions of South Asian Canadians while envisioning a more inclusive and equitable future for all.”

The South Asian Canadian Legacy Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the heritage and contributions of South Asian Canadians. Through research, education, and community engagement, we strive to raise awareness and foster dialogue about the diverse experiences and narratives within the South Asian Canadian community.
